Remarks from Monza's podium - race 2  Back to Top

Noriyuki Haga, 1st:
"Actually I couldn't change anything for the engine but I just made a few changes to the suspension and that was better than the first race for the feeling. On that last lap I was thinking about what I had to do to win, my head was totally blank but I arrived at the line and couldn't believe the gap, 0.009 seconds. Monza is special for me, here is our home track and I have been thinking for all last week that I must win. During the weekend I couldn't find the right feeling but yesterday my engineer and suspension engineer made a good combination and I was able to enjoy the riding".

Max Neukirchner, 2nd:
"I am sure Nori changed something between the two races and he did it really well because he was really quick in the corners. OK, I was a little bit faster on the straights, but I'm happy to be on the podium again, it's been a great weekend".

Ryuichi Kiyonari, 3rd
"I am very happy with my results but thinking back I think I missed some chances. I thought it was possible to win and I tried everything on that final lap, but unfortunately I ran wide on the exit of the Parabolica and that stopped me from winning because Haga had the better line".

Remarks from Monza's podium ? race 1  Back to Top

Max Neukirchner, 1st:

"It's the first win by a German rider in World Superbike and I'm really happy about that. My team did a great job this weekend. Our engine for sure is very fast, Suzuki have done a lot of development work on it. I felt the pressure all the way through the race, but once Yukio made a little mistake, I thought ‘great! Now I can try and do it alone!"

Noriyuki Haga,2nd:

"I tried so many times to push but it was difficult to pass Max, but anyway I really enjoyed the race. It was very close but in the straights it seems like my engine is a 250 and Max has 1200! We will have to try and look for some more horses in race 2!"

Troy Bayliss, 3rd:

"I was just missing a little bit of feel there, also I was maybe missing a little bit of jump in the gearing out of the slow corners but I can't take it away from these guys, and in the end I was happy to take third position and increase my points lead".

Neukirchner and Haga win at Monza  Back to Top

A wonderful sunny day at Monza characterised the fifth round of the season in one of the most loved circuit of the SuperBike championship.
A record crowd of 112,000 spectators welcomed the wins of Max Neukirchner and Noriyuki Haga which did not allow Ducati to obtain a home win but anyway thrilled the spectators with two wonderful races.

Race 1: the greatest news of the day came as Max Neukirchner passed the line and automatically entered the history of SuperBike as the first German driver to ever win a race in the SuperBike championship.
Right behind him came Noriyuki Haga, who was committed in a terrific fight with the German rider and crossed the line just 0.058 seconds behind him. Third on the podium landed safely in the hands of Troy Bayliss, who manage to win a late fight for the last remaining spot on the podium with Yukio Kagayama.
Impressive race from the Italian Max Biaggi who started the race in the ninth position on the grid and eventually concluded in the fifth.

Race2: in the second race of the day things inverted and saw Haga cross the line in the first position in front of Neukirchner, but it was certainly the German’s day for record since he managed to conclude the race with the shortest gap ever from the first rider: 0.009 seconds.
Before the last Parabolica however the first two riders on the podium were after Ryuichi Kiyonari, who made an impressive race and quite managed to win it, then concluding in the third position.

Open Paddock at Monza  Back to Top
This weekend takes place the fifth round of the SBK championship on one of the most historical and important tracks on the calendar: Monza.
Unfortunately Roberto Rolfo willl not take place in his home round due to a fall from his bike which caused him a broken collarbone.
The Italian spectators are waiting to see if Troy Bayliss will defend his position and his 70-point advantage in the standings over his closest rival, Spaniard rider Carlos Checa.
As usual, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza has organised the open paddock moment, during which the spectators can enter the circuit, meet their favourite riders and closely observe their bikes.
For the SBK the following will be present: Troy Bayliss, Max Biaggi, Carlos Checa, Noriyuki Haga, Makoto Tamada and Max Neukirchner.
There will also be plenty of journalists, who are eager to interview the best riders on their impressions and experiences on the legendary circuit of Monza.
