| Remarks from Istanbul's podium
|
Felipe Massa, 1st: "Its fantastic to have got the hat trick here in Istanbul: it might really almost be worth asking for a Turkish passport! It was a very tough race but the team work magnificently, giving me a great car. When Hamilton came underneath me at an incredible pace, I preferred not to take too many risks: the pit wall informed he that he was cleary running a lighter fuel load even if we were not certain he was on a three stop strategy. When that became clear, we were calmer, knowing we had everything in place to go for the win. My engineer, Rob, guided my pace and I drove in such a way as to keep ahead of Lewis. Maybe the hard tyres worked better today, but from what we saw over the weekend, the softs were more competitive and in any case, the difference was not that great. I want to dedicate this win to two people: to my mother on Mother's Day and to Stefano Domenicali whose birthday it is today."
Lewis Hamilton, 2nd: “I am so thrilled with today’s result, and I think this is the best race ever for me. It’s not about winning, it’s about feeling that you extract 100% from yourself and the car and I did that today. Before the race our prediction was that all being well I would finish fifth, so second is such a bonus. I was not happy with my performance yesterday and perhaps if I had managed to get the car on pole I could have won. However, we knew that we would have to use a three stop strategy as a precaution as we had some issues with our tyres. The team did a fantastic job, the pitstops were great, and the balance of the car was superb, and we all kept our spirit up. There were no problems with the tyres in the race. I managed to overtake Felipe at one point, and I really think we have closed the gap to Ferrari. I am so excited about the next race in Monaco and just can’t wait.”
Kimi Raikkonen, 3rd: "It was a difficult weekend for me but six points are definitely better than nothing. At the start, I was almost alongside Heikki but then he slowed and I had to brake too to avoid a heavy crash. We touched just enough to damage the end plate of the front wing on my car: it was not a very serious problem, but it definitely didn't help my race. My first set of soft tyres worked very well, but the second was not as good: for the rears, maybe it would have been better to switch immediately to the harder, but that's easy to say with hindsight. After a less than great qualifying yesterday, we knew the race would be an uphill struggle. Now we must ensure we are as well prepared as possible for the Monaco Grand Prix, where we struggled in 2007. This winter we worked a lot on the car to concentrate on those shortcomings which we saw at tracks like this. Now we will see if we did enough to be competitive." |

| Istanbul: great win for Massa
|
Ferrari showed to be the dominant team of the season again after the two podium positions gained yesterday at the Turkish GP. Felipe Massa was the fastest during the qualifying and thus gained the pole position, he then maintained the lead from the lights to the line exactly as his teammate did in Spain. The race of Istanbul was mainly uneventful and was characterised by another comeback by McLaren, which obtained the second position with Hamilton, while his teammate, newly-recovered Heikki Kovalainen, sufferd an unlucky race underlined by a tyre puncture which caused him to pit stop and then close the race in the 12th position. Kimi Raikkönen completed the podium in the last spot available after some contacts with Kovailanen and Alonso which anyway left his vehicle undamaged. Fourth and fifth position for BMW Sauber’s Kubica and Heidfeld, respectively, who always demonstrate great talent and never give up. By the end of this Gran Prix Raikkönen maintains the lead in the drivers’ standings at 35 points, although this win allows Massa to be closer and enter the fight for the Title with a 7-point gap from his Finnish teammate, sharing the position with Lewis Hamilton. |

| Kovalainen is back on track
|
Yesterday the FIA medical commission have claimed Heikki Kovalainen fit to compete in the Turkish GP so he will be on track today already for the two official test sessions. The Finnish driver has not missed a race despite the terrible incident of two weeks ago in Spain, when he finished off track, into the barriers and suffered a head concussion. McLaren’s medical team had followed him through this period, keeping him under close surveillance and had already considered him fit to race. Kovalainen stated that he feels well and can not wait to sit again behind the wheel of his car. In the meantime McLaren went on in their investigations on the Finnish damaged car and discovered that the incident was due to a manufacturer mistake on the left-front wheel. |

| Super Aguri withdraws from F1
|
After two years and a half of competitions in the Formula One championship the Super Aguri team announced yesterday their intentions to withdraw from the 2008 Formula One championship with immediate effect. As a matter of fact the Japanese team, has been suffering financial problems since the end of last year when SS United Oil & Gas Company failed to give their promised support as sponsor and therefore the team lost financial backing. They spent the winter without doing proper test action, because they could not afford it and despite the buyout by Magma Group earlier in the season, team president Suzuki Aguri has eventually decided to conclude his adventure in Formula One after having thanked all their fans, their collaborators, workers and current drivers Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson. Superi Aguri team obtained their first point in the standings after 22 races and concluded last season in the ninth position in the constructors’ standings. |
